October 29- The Day of Events in the World History
October 29, 1618: Sir Walter Raleigh Executed
Sir Walter Raleigh was born in 1554, England and died on October 29, 1618 in London. An English adventurer and writer and favourite of Queen Elizabeth I, who knighted Walter in 1585. He was accused by Elizabeth successor, James I.
Walter was imprisoned in the London Tower and eventually put to death. In 1582, Walter became Monarch’s favourite, and he began to take lucrative monopolies, influential positions, and properties.
October 29, 1897: Joseph Goebbels, a follower of Adolf Hitler Born
Paul Joseph Goebbels, born on October 29, 1897 (Germany) and died on May 1, 1945 (Berlin). Paul was a minister of propaganda for the Third Reich under Adolf Hitler. He was a master propagandist and orator, is accounted responsible for presenting a favourable image of Nazi Party.
Following Adolf Hitler’s suicide, Goebbels served as the Chancellor of Germany for a single day before he and his wife along with his six children poisoned themselves and took their own lives.
October 29, 1901: Anarchist Leon Czolgosz was Executed
Leon Czolgosz, born 1873 in Detroit, Michigan (US) and died on October 29, 1901 in Auburn (New York). Leon, an anarchist and labourer who shot US President William McKinley on September 6, 1901.
The president died eight days later and Czolgosz found guilty and executed.
October 29, 1929: US Stock Market Price Collapse
On this day, nearly 13 million shares sold in one day in 1929 and an additional 16 million shares sold on that particular day. Therefore this day called “Black Tuesday”, further increasing the crises called as the Great Depression.
October 29, 1938: President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Birth
Ellen Johnson Sirleaf or in short Ellen Johnson (born on October 29, 1938, Monrovia, Liberia). Ellen was a Liberian Politician and Economist who served as the President of Liberia (2006-18). She was the first woman head of the state of the African Country.
Sirleaf was among one of the three recipients, along with Tawakkul Karman and Leymah Gbowee, of 2011 Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts of women’s right.
October 29, 1950: Turkish President, Abdullah Gul Birth
Abdullah Gul, a Turkish Politician who served as the Prime Minister (2002-03) and the President of Turkey (2007-14) was born on October 29, 1950 in Kayseri (Turkey).
Gul Graduated in 1971 with a degree in Economics. He inherited politics from his beloved father, who owned a metalworking shop and who stood unsuccessful as the parliamentary candidate of National Salvation Party (NSP), the first Islamic Party to create an impact.
October 29, 1956: Israel’s Army Fight for Control over Suez Canal
Israel’s Army drove Egypt in the Sinai Peninsula to get control over the Suez Canal Area. Since the area is a triangular peninsula linking Africa with Asia with an area occupying over 23,500 square miles.
The Sinai Desert separated by Gulf of Suez and the Suez Canal from Eastern Desert of Egypt and continued eastwards to Negev Desert. The peninsula occupied by the Israeli forces but returned the peninsula to Egypt in 1982 under certain term of peace treaty.
October 29, 2015: China Announced the Ending of “One-Child Policy”
An official program “One Child Policy” initiated in the late 1970s by the Central Government of China. The main purpose was to limit the great majority of the family units in the country.
The implementing policy was to reduce China’s enormous growing population and announced in 2015, that the One Child Policy program will end in early 2016.
