27th October 1858: Theodore Roosevelt- 26th President of United States
Teddy Roosevelt or Theodore Roosevelt was born on October 27, 1858 in New York and died on January 6, 1919 in New York. Roosevelt was a writer, naturalist, and soldier. In 1906, he won the Nobel Prize and began the construction of Panama Canal.
27th October 1492: Christopher Columbus sailed to Cuba
Christopher Columbus, a master admiral and navigator along with his four transatlantic voyages (1492-1493, 1493-1496, 1498-1500, & 1502-1504) opened the way for European exploitation, exploration, and colonization of America. He was called the “discoverer” of the New World.
27th October 1932: Birth of American Poet and Novelist Sylvia Plath
An American poet with best known works, such as poems “Daddy”, “Lady Lazarus” and the novel “The Bell Jar”, Sylvia Plath was born on 27th October, 1932, Boston- Massachusetts (USA) and died on 11th February, 1963, London (England).
In her novel “The Bell Jar”, she expresses a sense of alienation and the self-destruction closely bound to her personal experience and the situation of women in America of mid-20th Century.
27th October 1961: Saturn Rocket Successfully Launched
The first Saturn Rocket successfully launched on this day. Years later, the Saturn V, a launch vehicle used in Apollo Moon landing flights.

Lise Meitner was born on November 7, 1878, Vienna (Austria) and died on October 27, 1968, Cambridge (England). Austrian born physicist awarded with Enrico Fermi Award (1966) with Chemist Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassman because of their joint research led to the discovery of Uranium fission.

A small country Saint Vincent & Grenadines of the eastern Caribbean Sea that stretch toward Grenada.
The name Saint Vincent, originally applied to the mainland of a group of smaller islands associated with it. The state renamed as Saint Vincent and Grenadines in 1979, after attaining independence. The major port and the capital is Kingstown and the country is a member of Commonwealth.

On this day, the Boston Red Sox ended the “Curse of Bambino”- an alleged hex on the team resulted from its 1920 sale of Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees. It defeated St. Louis Cardinals and won the world series title, first in 86 years.
27th October, 2014: Taylor Swift releases 1989, “An Official pop album”
Taylor Alison Swift or by name Taylor Swift was born on December 3, 1989 in Pennsylvania (USA). Taylor is an American pop and music singer as well as song writer whose tales achieved widespread success in the 21st century.
In the year 2014, Taylor released 1989, an official pop titled after the year of her birth inspired by the music of this era. Although Swift, moving away from the traditional country, the signifiers marked her early works- “I Knew You Were Trouble”. The album proved to be the blockbuster.
27th October, 2017: Catalonia’s Parliament Declared a Region’s Independence
Catalonia’s Parliament casted vote and declared the region independent from Spain. This results in the Central Government’s dismissing the legislative body and called for the new elections. As a result, pro-independence movement claimed the majority of seats in the election.
